The BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare Saints clinched a spot in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup playoffs following their recent 112-100 win over the McDavid Apparels-De La Salle Araneta Stallions at the San Juan Arena.
Joshua Fontanilla shot 3-for-7 shooting from three-point area to finish with 24 points for Basilan-St. Clare, along with six assists and three steals; while Irven Palencia added 14 points; Clarence Tiquia and Junjie Hallare each scored 12 markers; and Mohammad Pare notched a double-double on 13 points, 17 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
Despite the win, Basilan-St. Clare head coach Stevenson Tiu was disappointed in his squad allowing McDavid Apparels-De La Salle a 44 percent shooting rate.
“Taken for granted nila yung defense (They took defense for granted),” he said. “Kailangan ma-check namin yung tendencies na ganyan (We will need to check on those tendencies).”
“Sinabi ko na i-treat natin ang every team as a challenge (I told them, treat every team as a challenge),” the coach added./ASC, WDJ
