Eliud Poligrates scored a league record 67 points for the Marinerong Pilipino Skippers in their 141-97 win over iWalk Chargers earlier this week in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the San Juan Arena.
The previous record was held by James Martinez, who scored 58 points for the AMA Online Education Titans in 2016.
“Nakita namin ‘yung score ni Poli, sabi namin kayang abutan ‘yung record ni James (We saw Poligrates’ score and said he’s reached Martinez’ record),” said Marinerong Pilipino head coach Yong Garcia. “Binigyan namin siya ng chance na habulin at sobrang ganda ng laro niya (We gave him a chance to catch up and his game was very good).”
Marinerong Pilipino jumped to a 31-20 lead in the first period, with Poligrates contributing 15 in the opening quarter. The eventual winners later extended their lead to their largest of 47.
Meanwhile, Jhon Rey Alabanza and Rev Diputado each chipped in 11 points for Marinerong Pilipino./ASC, WDJ
