A 33-year-old man was killed late Sunday afternoon after he was struck by a bamboo stick at Sitio Mansilang in Cadiz City’s Barangay Cadiz Viejo.
Police identified the fatality as Antonio Lobaton, a resident of Hacienda Mayo in the city’s Barangay Sicaba.
Based on investigations by Cadiz City police, the victim was drinking with the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Ronilo dela Cruz, and his brother Joren dela Cruz. An argument then ensued between the victim and Joren, which escalated into a fight wherein the victim stabbed Joren, prompting Ronilo to retrieve a bamboo stick and struck Antonio repeatedly.
Locals immediately rushed both Joren and Lobaton to the Cadiz City Emergency Clinic for treatment; however, Lobaton was declared dead on arrival by medical staff.
Ronilo, meanwhile, voluntarily surrendered himself to responding police officers./DGB, WDJ
