Jopher Custodio drained a go-ahead triple to secure a 69-68 victory for the Bacolod Master Sardines over the Biñan City Heroes in the ongoing Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup last Thursday at the Bataan People’s Center in Balanga City.
With the score tied at 66-all after five straight points from Bacolod’s Nico Paolo Javelona, Custodio converted the decisive triple with 44 seconds left for a 69-66 edge. Biñan then managed to cut the deficit to 69-68 on a layup by Allan Mangahas but failed to secure a comeback win after Macky Acosta and Kyle Neypes misfired their inside attempts.
Javelona finished with a double-double on 22 points and 10 assists; while Custodio struggled throughout the game before draining the crucial triple to end with five markers; Mark Jayven Tallo flirted with double-double off 16 points and nine rebounds; and John Paul Cauilan earned a double-double with 11 markers and 13 boards./ASC, WDJ
