The Iloilo City government announced, amid plans to provide faster services to city residents, they will be partnering with Smart Communications to bring innovative technology to the city, including access to a mobile payment option.
“They will introduce [a] mobile payment application,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas. “They are going to partner with us in our quest to become a ‘Smart City’ [and] I am very excited.”
“The memorandum of agreement will provide us with free Wi-Fi at City Hall and the app,” he added.
Information Systems Office head Francis T. Cruz said a mobile payment option would be a big help with processing transactions.
“One advantage [with] online payments is [they are] based on mobile phones, not only computers,” he explained. “Secondly, taxpayers can check their previous payments and tax dues.”
“The city government can also see the collections for the day,” the city official added.
Meanwhile, Treñas said free Wi-Fi will also be provided at plazas, the Iloilo River Esplanade, and along Diversion Road in the Mandurriao district./WDJ
