A woman was declared dead after she was gunned down yesterday afternoon by riding-in-tandem suspects outside the Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ) along Magsaysay Street in Bacolod City.
Based on the MBDJ visitor’s pass and tax identification number card recovered by police, the victim was identified as 25-year-old Ashly Kate Gonzaga, a resident of Basil Street in the Helvetia Village, located in the city’s Barangay Villamonte.
Initial investigations revealed the victim was standing a few meters away from the gate of the MBDJ when two men aboard a motorcycle opened fire.
Gonzaga was killed instantly after she was struck in the back of her head, with the slug exiting through her eye.
The suspects subsequently fled although several police officers from the Bacolod City Police Office headquarters, which is located 100 meters away from the crime scene, immediately gave chase.
As of press time police have yet to arrest the suspects./DGB, WDJ
