World Humanitarian Day, which the United Nations recognizes every August 19, will be honoring women in crises this year. According to the international organization, “We salute the efforts of women aid workers from across the world, who rally to people in need.”
Adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2008, the observance seeks to reaffirm the “principles of neutrality, humanity, impartiality, and independence for the provision of humanitarian assistance.” The resolution introducing the day also emphasized the need to “mobilize adequate, predictable, timely, and flexible resources for humanitarian assistance.”
For this year’s observance, the UN notes, “Women make up a large number of those who risk their own lives to save others.”
“They are often the first to respond and the last to leave,” the organization noted on their website. “These women deserve to be celebrated.”
Earlier this month, the The Fraternal Order of Eagles-Philippines Eagles held a chartering and induction ceremony for Bacolod Eagles Club officers and members in Bacolod City’s Barangay Mandalagan.
The Bacolod Eagles Club is the pioneer Eagles club in the city, which is tasked with providing humanitarian service and concern for the community./WDJ
