The Iloilo City government recently distributed cash to disaster victims, those affected by the tornado that struck the Lapuz district earlier this month and survivors of the Iloilo Strait tragedy, along with the victims’ next of kin. In all, the city provided P875,000.
A total of 48 families whose homes were partially or completely damaged by the tornado were provided assistance; while the surviving families of city residents who perished in the Iloilo Strait, those of non-city residents, and surviving city residents were also eligible.
The same weather pattern is said to be responsible for both incidents.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the assistance will “provide relief and help residents recover from disaster.”
According to an earlier report from the Joint Iloilo City-Guimaras Incident Command Post, there were a total 18 passengers from Iloilo, eight of which were cited as Iloilo City residents, with 10 reported fatalities./WDJ
