De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde survived a late rally from Arellano University to secure an 82-77 win last Tuesday in the 95th NCAA men’s basketball season at the San Juan Arena. The win keeps them undefeated with a 5-0 record.
Clement Leutcheu top-scored for Benilde with 13 points, while Justin Gutang added 12, and Yankie Haruna – 11.
Benilde led from the beginning, holding an 82-67 advantage with less than two minutes left in the game. However, Arellano attempted a comeback behind Justin Arana and Marlon Espiritu, who managed to cut the deficit to five points with 18 seconds remaining.
“We should be able to handle those pressures and moving the ball from our backcourt to frontcourt with anybody inside the floor,” said Benilde head coach Tyrone Tang. “We can’t afford to make the same mistakes.”
In the other game, Mapúa University scored a 76-66 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College./ASC, WDJ
