Guihulngan City foiled

A planned attack by New People’s Army (NPA) insurgents last Sunday in Guihulngan City’s Barangay Balogo was foiled by the Philippine Army 94th Infantry Battalion (94IB).
94IB commander, Lt. Colonel Randy Pagunuran, said they conducted a patrol operation in the area after several residents complained of the NPA conducting recruitment activities in the area.
The army official said a chase ensued after soldiers saw five fully-armed individuals wearing camouflage uniforms. While the supposed insurgents managed to escape, one of the rebels dropped his KG-9 sub-machine gun with one magazine and loaded with 24 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Pagunuran said intelligence reports also indicated the five were likely in the area in order to conduct an attack on a Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit patrol base.
“We will be relentless in our operations; we will give them no chance of recruiting the innocent children to do the dirty work for them,” he explained. “Exploiting the youth’s innocence to become criminals is even tantamount to violation of RA 7610, which provides children with special protection against exploitation.”/DGB, WDJ
