After giving up the first goal in their match against Mendiola FC over the weekend in the 2019 Philippines Football League, Ceres-Negros FC pulled off a 5-2 win at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa City, Batangas with recent-signing Robert Lopez Mendy scoring four goals.
Mendiola midfielder Ricardo Sendra scored in the 10th minute; however, that lead was short-lived after Lopez Mendy found the back of the goal six minutes later. By the end of the first half, the striker secured a hat trick with subsequent goals in the 36th and 44th minutes, putting the Negrense club up 3-1.
Shortly into the second half, forward Ashley Flores made it a one-goal match after scoring for Mendiola in the 49th minute.
Lopez Mendy again extended the gap for Ceres FC with a goal in the 55th minute, his fourth of the match.
Just before the close of regulation time, Ceres defender Carli de Murga was fouled inside the box and midfielder Bienvenido Marañon successfully converted the penalty, securing the Bacolod City-based club’s comfortable 5-2 win./ASC, WDJ
