The TNT KaTropa and San Miguel Beermen split Games 3 and 4 over the weekend in their ongoing 2019 Honda PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals series, leaving the series ties 2-2. After TNT took Game 3 last Friday, 115-105; San Miguel captured Game 4 over the weekend, winning 106-101.
Chris McCullough tallied a double-double for the Beermen last Sunday with 27 points and 26 rebounds, while Alex Cabagnot added 25 points, and June Mar Fajardo contributed 22.
The KaTropa surged to an early 14-7 start behind Celedonio Trollano but the Beermen quickly erased that deficit and surged to a 31-22 edge behind McCullough, Cabagnot, and Chris Ross.
The Beermen maintained a 45-39 lead on hits by Cabagnot and Arwind Santos in the second period but the KaTropa got a huge lift from reinforcement Terrence Jones as they took a 52-51 halftime edge.
San Miguel relied on Fajardo in the third quarter as he scored consecutive inside hits and gave them a 74-65 edge, which later expanded to their largest lead of 84-69 on baskets from Cabagnot and Ross.
TNT, however, did not easily gave up as they mounted a huge run in the fourth behind Jones and Castro to come to as close as 98-96 but an inside hit by Fajardo and free throws from Cabagnot sealed the win for the Beermen./ASC, WDJ
