The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod recently passed a resolution calling for Mayor Evelio Leonardia to implement City Ordinance No. 08-14-666, also known as “The Night Market Ordinance,” which would establish a night market in the city.
City Councilor Simplicia Distrito, who authored the resolution, said the implementation would be timely as it could serve as a solution to the matter of displaced sidewalk vendors.
The city official pointed out, the ordinance creates the Night Market Committee, which will supervise market operations. She said they could make a decision on whether those who voluntarily dismantled their stalls would be given priority in terms of setting up at the night market.
Bacolod City Administrator John Orola earlier revealed the city is eyeing implementation for a weekend night market.
He also said he will schedule a meeting to convene the committee./DGB, WDJ
