The Philippine men’s national basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, scored a 94-83 win over the Ivory Coast in a closed-door friendly earlier this week at the Palacio Multiusos de Guadalajara in Spain.
Andray Blatche fell short of a triple-double with 18 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds; while Paul Lee added 16 markers; Japeth Aguilar added 12 points; and Jaymar Perez contributed 11.
Gilas Pilipinas fell behind early and trailed 28-19 after the first 10 minutes. They went on to get their offense going in the second quarter and closed the gap to 50-45 at the half.
The Philippine side continued to push forward in the third quarter, while tightening its defense, forcing their opponent to commit numerous turnovers and eventually taking a 79-75 advantage.
By the final quarter, it was all Gilas as Blatche and Lee anchored the offense, thwarting several attempted runs by the Ivory Coast, and increasing their lead to double figures.
Following the two-game exhibition, the Philippine squad proceeded to Malaga for a pocket tournament./ASC, WDJ
