After Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas earlier said he is considering public-private partnerships (PPPs) for various city projects, including the establishment of a waste-to-energy facility in the city’s Mandurriao district, the city government announced three firms have expressed interest in the said development.
The mayor said the proposal will be reviewed by the PPP Center next week, August 14; along with a PPP Selection Committee and Technical Working Group orientation workshop scheduled to run from August 22 to 23.
The waste-to-energy facility is intended to address waste management issues, including indiscriminate littering, which has resulted in clogged drain pipes that cause flooding.
Another project involves upgrading the city slaughterhouse in the Jaro district’s Barangay Tacas.
After Treñas earlier pointed out there were four interested parties with regard to the project, those proposals will also be evaluated next week.
“We can’t afford to have a slaughterhouse where the butchering process is being done on the floor,” the mayor added./WDJ
