Ilonggo athletes win 30 medals at taekwondo festival in S. Korea

Taekwondo athletes from Iloilo earned 30 medals, including 20 golds, at the 2019 Shinhan World Peace Taekwondo Festival over the weekend, which took place at Shinhan University in Gyeonggi, South Korea. The competition included both poomsae events, which are comprised of basic attack and defense motions associated with the martial art; and kyorugi events, a demonstration of sparring.
Fyll Krystyl Xylyl led the Region 6 delegation with three gold medals, winning in individual poomsae, mixed pair poomsae, along with a kyorugi event.
Other Ilonggo winners included Quinn Pauline Hormigoso, who won two gold medals in individual poomsae and mixed poomsae, along with a bronze in kyorugi; Sophia Tungala captured two gold medals in individual poomsae and kyorugi, plus a silver in a mixed pair event; Antonio Miguel Nafarrete bagged gold medals in individual poomsae and kyorugi, along with a silver in a mixed pair event; Ayna Tajanlangit won gold medals in individual poomsae and mixed pair, plus a bronze in kyorugi; Jesseray Frantilla clinched gold medals in kyorugi and a mixed pair event, along with a bronze in individual poomsae; Ben Capadosa won gold medals in individual poomse and kyorugi; Ashton Martin Losaria also captured gold medals in individual poomse and kyorugi; LilMayden Torrefiel Niverca won gold in kyorugi and silver in individual poomsae; and Alexander Bell took gold in a mixed pair event and silver medals in individual poomsae and kyorugi.
Meanwhile, head coach Flora Navales won three medals, including a gold in a mixed pair event, silver in individual poomsae, and bronze in kyorugi.
