During his discussion with Bacolod City barangay captains and other officials last Thursday at the Bacolod City Government Center, Mayor Evelio Leonardia directed those gathered to issue notices to owners of certain illegal structures to inform them that they will be given a 10-day grace period before demolition and clearing operations commence.
Owners of illegal structures obstructing roads, during that time, will have an opportunity to voluntarily remove the fixtures.
At the latest, notices must be delivered by today, August 3. Copies of the said notices must then be furnished to the Office of the Mayor by Monday, August 5.
The meeting came after President Rodrigo Duterte, in his recent State of the Nation Address, called on “all concerned local officials” to “undertake immediate action to ensure the speedy and smooth flow of vehicular traffic.”
The memorandum distributed said “significant results” over the next 20 days.
Days after Duterte delivered his most recent State of the Nation Address, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas issued a memorandum order to strictly enforce road clearing policies.
“Effective immediately, and in accordance with directive of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, you are hereby directed to go around the city, including all barangays, to verify any obstructions and illegal construction along national highways and barangay roads and to clear and demolish the same,” his order indicated./WDJ
