Ceres-Negros FC and Kaya FC-Iloilo are set to clash in another “Visayas Clásico” this weekend, Saturday, August 3, at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa City, Batangas. The two currently sit atop the 2019 Philippines Football League standings, with the Negrense club carrying an advantage in goal difference and one game in hand.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Ceres won the previous Clásico last month, 2-1.
In that match, towards the end of a scoreless first half, Kaya FC midfielder Arnel Amita was shown a red card for dragging Ceres midfielder OJ Porteria to the ground.
“It’s always is very hard to play against them because they are very aggressive,” said Ceres coach Risto Vidaković. “Hopefully, this time, the referee will take care of the players.”
Meanwhile, the Negrense club officially signed four new players just in time for the match. Charles Baberan, Tristan Robles, and Takashi Odawara, along with former Kaya-Iloilo star Robert Lopez Mendy, all formally joined the club.
For Kaya FC coach Noel Marcaida, he called the match-up a test for their defense.
“Playing against a team that has fluid movement in attack, with an addition of a player that has pace and quality finishing, it will really be a test on our end defensively,” he explained.
Both clubs are coming off victories with Ceres earlier beating Green Archers United, 2-0; and Kaya scoring a 5-0 domination over Mendiola FC./ASC, WDJ
