Several fraternities and sororities in Iloilo City will hold a blood-letting activity this weekend as a means of addressing a lack of blood supply in the city, which is crucial amid the ongoing “state of calamity” in response to the number of local dengue-related cases.
The blood drive, conducted in partnership with the Iloilo City government and Philippine Red Cross-Iloilo, will be held on the fourth floor of Gaisano City in the city’s La Paz district, on Sunday, August 4, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
“This is only [the] start of the unity of our fraternities and sororities in Iloilo City,” said Roy C. Miranda of Sigma Rho. “We have future plans.”
Aside from Sigma Rho, the other Greek letter organizations involved in the event include Alpha Kappa Rho, Tau Gamma (Iloilo Provincial Council), Alpha Phi Omega, and Gamma Phi Omicron. Also participating in the activity are Scouts Royale Brotherhood.
“We are happy that they sent their intentions to help the city government regarding our campaign and advocacy against dengue,” said City Councilor Alan Zaldivar, who chairs the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Health.
Another blood drive is scheduled for August 14./WDJ
