Barangay Ginebra San Miguel kept their 2019 Honda PBA Commissioner’s Cup hopes alive after taking Game 3 of their best-of-five semifinal series earlier this week at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. With TNT KaTropa winning the first two games, Barangay Ginebra managed to pull one back and won 80-72.
LA Tenorio played nearly the entire game to top-score for Barangay Ginebra with 16 points; while Justin Brownlee flirted with triple-double earning 14 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists.
Barangay Ginebra surprised KaTropa with an unusual starting five as Tenorio, Brownlee, Earl Scottie Thompson, Mark Caguioa, and Stanley Pringle were fielded and surged to a 21-10 start. TNT went on to pick up some hits late in the period to get to within seven.
KaTropa eventually pulled closer at 34-30 midway in the second period but Barangay Ginebra responded with a triple by Pringle and inside hits from Caguioa and Thompson for a 42-32 halftime edge.
TNT, however, managed to keep the match close in the second half and took a 60-59 edge before Barangay Ginebra pulled away with triples from Pringle and Brownlee for a 65-60 edge.
Game 4 takes place tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City./ASC, WDJ
