Colegio de San Juan de Letran survived a late run from Mapúa University to escape with an 89-84 win in the ongoing 95th NCAA senior men’s basketball season yesterday at the San Juan Arena.
With Letran carrying an 11-point lead towards the end of the fourth period, Mapúa rallied and narrowed to gap to 84-82 with 33 seconds left; however, a three-pointer from Edson Batiller gave Letran some breathing room with 19 second left in the game.
Batiller finished the game with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block for Letran; while Larry Muyang top-scored with 24 points and nine rebounds, Jeo Ambohot scored 14 points, and Jerrick Balanza added 11.
Despite the win, Letran head coach Bonnie Tan called it a “bad game” saying they were “outrebounded.”/ASC, WDJ
