Iloilo City’s Charter Day festivities are currently underway with sporting events kicking off as early as last week and the formal launch event taking place yesterday morning at the Iloilo City Freedom Grandstand.
Charter Day itself, August 25, will include a parade, public concert, “Laro ng Lahi,” and a fireworks display.
Throughout August, the city will be hosting various events such as responsible parenthood and family planning programs across the metropolis, barangay resilience forums, veterinary medical missions, among other activities.
The Iloilo River Esplanade will also play host to a variety of events including a motorized fishing boat race, paddle boat contest, game fishing activities, art contest, among other events.
Earlier, in light of the ongoing “state of calamity” declared in the city due to dengue fever, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said celebrations this year will be more modest.
“Our Charter Day this year will be scaled down,” he stated. “We can’t be celebrating while many are sick with dengue.”
“I hope you understand,” the mayor added./WDJ
