The Negros Occidental provincial government and the Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Foundation, Inc. (NISARD) held a symposium on organic farming last week at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City.
In his address to the event, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson emphasized the importance of developing an organic agriculture industry as a means of elevating the lives of local farmers.
“We need to be reminded that agriculture is the foundation of our food security,” he said. “Agriculture is our tool for lifting people out of poverty.”
Meanwhile, for NISARD President Edgardo Uychiat, organic agriculture in the province must “scale up.”
He also expressed appreciation for the governor’s support on the matter./WDJ
