The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) recently passed a resolution calling for an intensified crackdown on “hot meat,” which refers to meat that was illegally slaughtered.
The policy, authored by City Councilor Carl Lopez, tasks the City Veterinary Office, AVM Bernardo Slaughterhouse, and Task Force Botagoy, which handles matters pertaining to unauthorized slaughterhouse operations, to conduct intensified operations on veterinary and livestock establishments in the city.
“Unaccredited slaughterhouses in some areas, without undergoing prior inspection by the [City Veterinary Office], still run amok in this city,” the city official stated.
Lopez said the illegal or improper slaughtering of livestock poses “great risk and danger” to the welfare and health of consumers./DGB, WDJ
