Two siblings and a barangay captain were killed early Thursday morning in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental following two reported home invasions.
According to Guihulngan City police, the first incident took place around 12:55 a.m., with gunmen breaking into the home of 55-year-old Guihulngan Science High School principal Arthur Cordevilla and his sister, 49-year-old Ardale Cordevilla, an officer with the local Department of Education.
Both were shot dead with responding police and rescuers rushing the victims to a hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.
Shortly after, around 1:40 a.m., the home of 64-year-old Barangay Buenavista Captain Romeo Alipan was also unlawfully entered, where the local official was also shot dead.
Police currently have no suspects.
The incident is just the latest in a string of violent incidents in the province with four police officers killed on July 18 in Ayungon, along with human rights attorney Anthony Trinidad shot dead in Guihulngan City on July 23.
Notably, Trinidad was included on a “death list,” which was released last year by Kawsa Guihulnganon Batok Komunista, a local anti-Communism group.
Meanwhile, Diocese of San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza issued a statement condemning the murders and called for a resumption of peace talks between insurgents and the government./DGB, WDJ
