Chris McCullough came up with clutch baskets down the stretch to propel the San Miguel Beermen into the 2019 Honda PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals following a 90-88 win last night over NorthPort Batang Pier at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After their 16-point lead turned into an 86-82 deficit, Arwind Santos delivered a triple and a layup for the Beermen, resulting in an 87-86 lead. However, Robert Bolick, Jr. put NorthPort back in the lead, up 88-87.
With 30 second left in the game, McCullough attacked the Batang Pier defense and put the Beermen up, 89-88. He then split freebies before forcing Bolick into an awkward three-point attempt.
McCullough finished with a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds, while Marcio Lassiter contributed 11 points before exiting late in the second quarter due to a knee injury, and Alex Cabagnot and Arwind Santos each added 10 points.
The win pits the Beermen against the winner of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters-Blackwater Elite quarterfinal series./ASC, WDJ
