After Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda announced weighing scale inspections were scheduled at Bacolod City’s Burgos Public Market, Central Market, and Libertad Public Market early last year, along with the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod passing a resolution last January calling on the City Treasurer’s Office to conduct an inspection of all instruments for weights and measures at the said markets, Pineda said the City Treasurer’s Office, in cooperation with the City Legal Office Enforcement Team, is currently calibrating and sealing weighing scales at the three major markets as well as other minor markets.
As of press time, Pineda has yet to determine how many scales have been calibrated and sealed nor has the city confiscated any uncalibrated weighing scales.
Last Tuesday, officials brought the operation to Burgos Public Market. They then proceeded to Libertad Public Market yesterday, with Central Market scheduled for today.
Pineda said inspections and monitoring of weighing scale are being conducted following complaints claiming vendors were using incorrect data or lacked proper equipment.
The city official noted, weighing scales must be calibrated every six months./DGB, WDJ
