PACIWU: Strike planned regardless of company president
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga
The Philippine Agricultural, Commercial, and Industrial Workers Union (PACIWU), which organizes the employees of Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI), Ceres bus liner’s parent company, revealed plans to hold a demonstration against current management. According to PACIWU National President Hernani Braza, a strike notice will be filed today before the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Bacolod City.
Despite the union recognizing ousted company president Leo Rey Yanson as the company head, Braza affirmed they would have demonstrated regardless of who sat as company president, citing cases of union official harassment and violations to “economic provisions.”
Aside from the four union officials earlier accused of attempting to launch a “fake strike” against VTI, namely, PACIWU-TUCP Executive Vice President Rey dela Torre, Board Members Juvy Diama and Raymond Roldan, and Chapter President Franny Santarin, the union official also listed delayed disbursements of retirement pay, separation pay, “incentives,” mutual aid fund, among other claims.
He assured the strike will not disrupt operations./DGB, WDJ
