The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Ayungon recently filed multiple murder and robbery charges against six suspected New People’s Army (NPA) insurgents following last Thursday’s murder of four police officers in the Negros Oriental town’s Barangay Mabato.
Ayungon Municipal Police Station chief, Police Captain Romel Luga, confirmed charges were filed against Victoriano Bangala Anadon, Jr., Jonathan Baldivino, Rengie Anadon Baluhabo, Gelie Anadon Ebedo, Joseph Torres Ogates, and Jelly Anadon Ebedo.
He said, aside from Anadon, the other five remain at large.
The six suspects were charged with the murders of Police Corporal Relebert Beronio and Police Patrolmen Raffy Callao, Ruel Cabellon, and Marquino de Leon. The four intelligence officers were reportedly captured, tortured, and killed by at least 15 NPA rebels while they were on their way to Anadon’s home.
Based on witness testimony and photos, all six were identified as alleged NPA members.
Robbery charges were also filed after they allegedly took the police officers’ service firearms and other personal belongings.
Anadon is currently detained at the Ayungon Police Station awaiting a commitment order in order to transfer to the Negros Oriental Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Dumaguete City.
Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte has offered P1 million for the capture of those responsible for the deaths.
The reward was officer over the weekend during a command conference with security forces./DGB, WDJ
