Fresh off his split-decision win over Keith Thurman last Sunday, newly-crowned World Boxing Association world super welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is considering a return to the ring in January. In a post-match interview, the eight-division world boxing champion said he hopes to face the winner of the Errol Spence, Jr.-Shawn Porter unification bout, which is scheduled to take place on September 28.
“I hope to meet the winner of that Spence-Porter fight,” the Filipino boxer said. “My next fight is probably next year; after that, I am going back to the Philippines to work in the Senate.”
Spence is the current International Boxing Federation world welterweight championship; while Porter, Pacquiao’s former sparring partner, is the World Boxing Council world welterweight champion.
In the interview, he also credited Thurman’s fighting style.
“Keith is a very good fighter; you can never underestimate him,” Pacquaio said. “I believe he has a great future coming his way.”/ASC, WDJ
