Ceres-Negros FC extended their lead atop the Philippines Football League table with their 2-0 win yesterday over Green Archers United at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona, Cavite.
The Negrense club was on the board early; however, it was courtesy of an own goal by Green Archers defender Fredy Mbang, who was attempting to clear a cross by Ceres-Negros FC midfielder Stephan Schröck.
By the 28th minute, Ceres midfielder Mike Ott made it 2-0.
Green Archers United nearly pulled one back just before halftime after midfielder Marvin Angeles misfired a header following a free kick delivered by fellow midfielder Paolo Bugas.
Into the second half, the focus shifted to Ceres keeper Roland Müller whose several saves earned him “Man of the Match.”
The win keeps the Bacolod City-based ahead of second place Kaya FC-Iloilo by three points./WDJ
