The Davao Occidental Tigers scored an 85-74 win over the weekend against the Bacolod Master Sardines in the ongoing Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Davao immediately made their presence felt as they surged to a 19-8 edge in the opening period. Bacolod gained some headway in the second and cut the deficit to 40-32 at the half; however, it was all Tigers in the second half with contributions from James Forrester and Marco Balagtas, pushing to their widest lead of 73-53 at the onset of the fourth period.
Forrester had his best showing this season with 16 points; while Balagtas also contributed the same; and Ilonggo small forward Billy Ray Robles earned a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, despite posting a double-double for the winning side on 16 points and 15 rebounds, a miss by Negrense power forward Mark Yee left him one rebound away from achieving 500 points and 500 rebounds in the league./ASC, WDJ
