Former Kaya FC-Iloilo striker Robert Lopez Mendy appears headed for Ceres-Negros FC with reports suggesting he is close to signing with the defending Philippines Football League champions. A source told Watchmen Daily Journal that the 32-year-old forward has “agreed in principle” to join the Bacolod City-based club following his stint with Malaysia Premier League club UiTM FC. The Liga Premier Malaysia 2019 is set to conclude this weekend.
The entry by the Senegalese striker will provide the Negrense club with some firepower following the earlier departures of defender Álvaro Silva and midfielder Martin Steuble.
Prior to his move to Malaysia, Lopez Mendy played with Ceres’ regional rival, Kaya FC-Iloilo, winning the inaugural Copa Paulino Alcantara during his tenure.
The striker initially intended on a return to Iloilo but the club is currently at its maximum of four foreign players./ASC, WDJ
