Benilde, SSC-R go 2-0

De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde and San Sebastian College-Recoletos (SSC-R) both went 2-0 in the ongoing 95th NCAA senior men’s basketball season last Tuesday at the San Juan Arena. Benilde scored a 75-63 win over University of Perpetual Help System DALTA-Atlas (UPHSD Altas), while SSC-R pulled off a 92-68 victory over Mapúa University.
Carlo Young led Benilde with 14 points; while Kendrix Belgica added 12; Justin Gutang fell short of a triple-double with nine points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists; while Ilonggo player Edward Dixon contributed eight points and 12 rebounds.
Trailing for the most part of the opening half, Benilde leaned on Young and Belgica in the third period to outscore UPHSD Altas 23-8 and took a 49-41 edge heading into the fourth period.
Despite being down 61-55 with just over four minutes left in the game, UPHSD Altas continued to fight but ended up committing multiple fouls, resulting in 15 free throws for Benilde.
Meanwhile, RK Ilagan top-scored for SSC-R with 20 points./ASC, WDJ
