The Meralco Bolts kept their quarterfinal hopes alive with a 95-91 win over the San Miguel Beermen at the close of 2019 Honda PBA Commissioner’s Cup elimination round last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Delroy James came up with back-to-back inside conversions in the final minute of the game to break the 91-all deadlock and snap the Bolts’ five-game losing streak.
James finished with 34 points, six assists, five rebounds, four steals, and three blocks; while Chris Newsome added 20 points; and Raymond Almazan scored 15 markers.
The victory gave Meralco a 4-7 win-loss record, setting them up for a knockout game against the Alaska Aces for the eighth and final quarterfinals slot tomorrow night.
Meanwhile, the Beermen’s fate is incumbent on the result of the game between the Magnolia Hotshots and TNT KaTropa, which is being played as of press time./ASC, WDJ
