William McAloney, Jr. scored on a game-winning three-point play to push the Cebu Sharks to a narrow 69-68 win over the Iloilo United Royals in the ongoing Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League earlier this week at the Valenzuela Astrodome.
McAloney finished the game with 15 points, along with nine rebounds; while Rhaffy Octobre added 11 markers and nine boards.
From a seesaw battle in the first three quarters, Cebu went on a 13-3 scoring run early in the fourth behind McAloney, Octobre, and Edrian Lao for a 61-53 advantage. Iloilo responded with seven straight points from Rodel de Leon to narrow the deficit to 61-60 before taking a 63-61 edge on a three-pointer by Al Francis Tamsi.
The Sharks, however, went on to regain a 64-63 lead on a conversion from McAloney.
Iloilo pulled ahead anew and took a 66-64 lead off a key three-pointer from Frederick Rodriguez before Cebu forced a deadlock on two freebies by Octobre. Trailing 68-66 after a basket by de Leon, McAloney attacked the defense for a three-point play, which surged Cebu to a 69-68 lead with two seconds left in the game./ASC, WDJ
