Amid the ongoing dengue outbreak in Iloilo, Iloilo City Councilor Ely Estante, along with two of Maasin Mayor Francis Amboy’s daughters, were recently hospitalized for dengue fever.
The city councilor said he visited a local hospital to have a rash checked on, along with reportedly experiencing chills. Subsequent laboratory results showed he was exhibiting symptoms of dengue fever.
For the Maasin mayor’s daughters, his 12-year-old, after contracting a fever, was confirmed to have dengue after undergoing testing; his seven-year-old was also administered a dengue test and tested positive.
Last week, in response to the Iloilo City Health (CHO) reporting six dengue-related deaths in the city between January and July 10 of this year, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas issued an executive order for all government offices and city barangays to conduct clean-up drives in their respective jurisdictions.
According to CHO data, there have been a total of 619 dengue-related cases reported in the city, with the Jaro district recording the most with 168.
Meanwhile, Iloilo City Councilor Allan Zaldivar, who chairs the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Health, said they will be launching an anti-dengue advocacy campaign this weekend, July 20, at the Calumpang gym in the city’s Molo district./WDJ
