Kaya FC-Iloilo were held to a 0-0 draw over the weekend against Green Archers United FC in the 2019 Philippines Football League (PFL) at the PFF Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
Midfielder Yannick Tuason opened aggressively for the Ilonggo side with four early chances, which were all either misdirected or foiled by defense. Green Archer midfielder Marvin Angeles also made an attempt but was blocked by Kaya keeper Louie Casas.
The Green Archers earned another chance through striker Jimuel Ariola, who misfired his shot from the edge of the box.
Kaya FC forward Eric Giganto tried to push his team ahead but ran into some bad luck when his attempt struck the crossbar.
Ilonggo striker Jovin Bedic came on for Kaya in the second half in an attempt to get the Iloilo City-based side on the board; however, defense firmly subdued his presence. Another Kaya striker, Jordan Mintah, also tried putting his stamp on the match but his attempt went wide.
Kaya FC made their final push in the closing minutes of the match with striker Darryl Roberts’ header getting blocked.
The draw keeps Kaya FC in first place in the PFL standings, ahead of second place Ceres-Negros FC, 16 points to 13 points; however, the Negrense side has one game in hand. The Bacolod City-based club was earlier scheduled to play Stallion-Laguna FC last Saturday at the Biñan Football Stadium but their match was postponed due to inclement weather.
