I was invited to attend the recent inauguration and oath-taking ceremonies for the newly-elected officials of Himamaylan City. The theme “Bag-o nga Direksyon, Bag-o nga Henerasyon” indicated this is a new generation of elected officials with new insight, direction, and vision.
The midterm elections showed the people wanted change and voters are expecting this new generation to deliver on their campaign promises.
When asked about the election result Mayor Raymund Tongson credited “God and the people.”
“The people [were] instrumental in [waking] the sleeping dragon,” he said.
The mayor promised basic services to his constituents and vowed to “sell the city to the world,” which he believes will open up the many opportunities the city can provide.
Tongson also prioritizes the city’s port, along with the Himamaylan-Tayasan road.
As former Lions Club District 301- B governor, with strengths in management and leaderships, along with good public relations skills, I believe he can deliver much-needed reforms./WDJ
