After the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bacolod City said they would be seeking assistance from the city government to remove 15 illegal structures along a stretch of the Bacolod Economic Highway project in the city’s Barangay Sum-ag, owners of the said structures have since voluntary demolished them as of yesterday morning.
According to Bacolod City District Engineering Office head, Engr. Abraham Villareal, the owners of the 15 shanties situated along both sides of the highway were given an ultimatum by the City Legal Office (CLO) to remove their structures by today or else a team from the CLO and DPWH will demolish them.
DPWH earlier conducted an inspection and noticed the structures sprouting on property owned by the national government.
Villareal clarified there is no relocation provided to the owners because they already have homes in the said barangay, noting, the structures were erected in order to set up stores./DGB, WDJ
