National Youth Commission offers reminder on basic survival kits

In recognition of National Disaster Resilience Month, which was declared by President Rodrigo Duterte via executive order in 2017 and is observed throughout July, the National Youth Commission recently shared a post on social media reminding the public of the components of a basic survival kit.
Citing the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, they indicated necessities include a first aid kit; emergency items such as a flashlight, portable radio, batteries, candles and matches, among other related items; hygienic needs such as clothes, toiletries, and tissues; personal belongings including identification card with blood type, important documents, and emergency numbers; along with food and water.
Earlier this week, Iloilo City kicked off the month-log observance with a motorcade throughout the city.
According to the order, the purpose of National Disaster Resilience Month is to “provide national government agencies and local government units ample time to implement their disaster awareness campaigns.”
The order also notes, “There is a need to promote the significance of disaster resilience, which pertains to the ability [for] individuals, communities, organizations, and states to adapt to and recover from the effects of hazards and disasters through effective risk management.”/WDJ
