After the Negros First softball team, which includes 13 Education and Training Center School-1 (ETCS-1) students on the roster, recently won the Little League Softball Asia-Pacific regional tournament and earned a berth in the upcoming 2019 Little League Softball World Series, scheduled to take place from August 7 to 14 in Portland, Oregon in the United States, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia offered his greetings to the squad.
“We congratulate the ETCS pupils for their impressive victory, beating all the rest in an international tournament is no ordinary feat—we are very proud of them,” the mayor said. “We wish them the best in their future competitions.”
After completing a 17-0 domination of China in the finals, the Negrense squad secured their third straight World Series qualification. The team previously finished in fifth place in 2017, along with taking seventh last year.
“We are very thankful to everyone who supported these girls in one way or another,” said Department of Education-Division of Negros Occidental Sports Coordinator Romeo Sison following the win. “We hope that our provincial government will continue to support us in the upcoming World Series.”
Meanwhile, the Philippine junior softball team also qualified for their World Series after defeating New Zealand, 16-14, in the Junior League Softball Asia-Pacific regional tournament finals./WDJ
