Sancho: Any friendship with China is negated

Local labor group, the General Alliance of Workers Association, recently condemned statements made by President Rodrigo Duterte with regard to permitting Chinese fishermen to continue fishing in the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
GAWA Secretary-General Wennie Sancho said Duterte’s statement provides an opportunity for Chinese fishermen to exploit the country’s maritime resources.
He went on to characterize it as “tantamount to legitimizing the plunder of the country’s patrimony.”
The labor official claimed the EEZ has been “turned into a common fishing ground” and said he precedent will tempt other countries.
“It is high time for our legislators and judges manifest their nationalism by scrapping this proposal to allow China to exploit our own maritime wealth,” Sancho declared.
Meanwhile, he said any “friendship” with China has been negated after the incident regarding a Filipino fishing vessel at the Recto Bank.
“Real friends do not abandon their friends in times of danger,” Sancho added./DGB, WDJ
