Ilonggo guard to lead PHL squad

Ilonggo guard Gerry Abadiano is set to lead the Philippine men’s national under-19 basketball team in the 2019 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Heraklion, Greece with their tournament opener scheduled to take place this weekend against Argentina.
“Ine-expect namin na mas malalaki at mas mabibilis ang kalaban, pero gawin lang namin ang role namin at ibigay lang namin ‘yung best namin every time (We are expecting out opponents to be bigger and faster but we will fulfill our role and give it our best every time,” said the Iloilo City native.
Also making the Philippine roster are Terrence Fortea, Dalph Panopio, Joshua Ramirez, James Spencer, Xyrus Torres, Rhayaan Amsali, Dave Ildefonso, Migs Oczon, Kai Sotto, Alfred John Edu, Bismarck Lina, Geo Chiu, and Carl Tamayo.
In addition, Ateneo de Manila University assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga will be leading the team.
Aside from Argentina, the Philippines is drawn in Group C, alongside Russia and the host country, Greece.
