The Iloilo MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions, exhibitions) Alliance recently held a core group meeting to discuss incentives for promoting the city as a “MICE destination.” Earlier this year, the Department of Tourism-Region VI (DOT-6) unveiled their Iloilo MICE Situationer and Marketing Plan, which is intended to provide updates on how they are working to make Iloilo City a MICE destination.
Among those in attendance included DOT Undersecretary Arturo P. Boncato, Jr.; DOT Assistant Secretary Maria Rica C. Bueno; DOT regional director, Atty. Helen J. Catalbas; and Iloilo City Executive Assistant for MICE Salvador Sarabia.
During the meeting, Philippine Airlines, SM Malls, Robinsons Malls, and the Iloilo Convention Center were named as businesses willing to provide discounts related to MICE events.
“This only goes to show the willingness of tourism stakeholders and the local government unit to promote MICE in Iloilo City,” Catalbas said. “No [one else] will benefit from this but our tourism stakeholders.”
The Tourism Promotions Board marketing and promotions team was in Iloilo City earlier this year for a tourism MICE facilities and products validation.
“MICE organizers are attracted to the variety of activities Iloilo City can offer delegates; from natural and cultural attractions to scenic view and delectable cuisines,” Catalbas said at the time. “Iloilo City is growing in terms of tourism facilities, attractions, and connectivity to other regions of the country.”
Iloilo MICE Campaign is set to be launched this October./WDJ
