San Beda University won the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup over the weekend with a 74-57 triumph over De La Salle University (DLSU) last Sunday at the San Juan Arena.
MVP Donald Tankoua top-scored for San Beda with 17 points, six rebounds, and two blocks; while James Canlas added 15 points; and Ilonggo player Clint Doliguez scored 13 markers.
Canlas and Evan Nelle anchored San Beda’s second half onslaught as they guided the NCAA champions to a perfect 9-0 run in the summer tourney.
With DLSU carrying a narrow 34-33 lead at the half, San Beda opened the second half with a 16-2 scoring run behind Canlas, Nelle, and Doliguez to take a 49-36 lead.
DLSU made its last run to come to as close as 59-47 but San Beda were quick to respond behind the tandem of Canlas and Nelle as the lead swelled to its largest at 74-52 on a baseline hit by Calvin Oftana./ASC, WDJ
