After playing to a 1-1 draw last week at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City against V.League 1 champions Hanoi FC in the first leg of their 2019 AFC Cup ASEAN zonal semifinal, Ceres-Negros FC faces a “must win” in the second leg, which takes place tonight at the Hàng Đẫy Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The first leg result gives the Vietnamese side an advantage as they enter the second leg with an away goal.
“We are prepared for the next match,” said Ceres midfielder Bienvenido Marañón. “Hopefully we can play a good game there.”
In the first leg, after a scoreless first half, Ceres midfielder Stephan Schröck set up Marañón in the 57th minute when the latter headed in the match’s first goal. However, Hanoi striker Pape Omar Faye scored the equalizer in the 67th minute.
In 2017, the year Ceres FC were crowned AFC Cup ASEAN Zone champions, they dropped the first leg, 2-1, to Singaporean side Home United FC. However, they eventually came back in the second leg, winning 2-0, resulting in an aggregate score of 3-2./ASC, WDJ
