Aris Dionisio came up with clutch hits for the Manila Stars as they narrowly escaped with an 86-85 victory over the Quezon City Capitals last Tuesday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
While down 85-82, after John Tayongtong scored five straight points for QC, Dionisio pulled Manila to within one following a layup at 17-second mark before pulling off a steal for the go-ahead basket in the final 11 seconds.
In addition, he also contributed on the defensive end in the final seconds by foiling a potential game-winning shot from Ilonggo player Peejay Barua with a chase-down block.
Dionisio finished with a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds, while Marvin Lee added 17 points, and Carlo Lastimosa chipped in 12 markers.
In the other game, the Makati Super Crunch dominated the Rizal Golden Coolers, 73-51.
After holding a 20-13 lead in the first quarter, Makati pulled away for the rest of the game, building a lead by as much as 28 points.
