Ballet Philippines, dubbed “the leading professional classical and contemporary dance company in the country,” is set to perform in Bacolod City next month as part of its 50th anniversary commemoration. A performance of “Celebration: Ballet Philippines’ 50th Anniversary Outreach Tour” is scheduled to take place at the University of St. La Salle on July 9.
Negros Cultural Foundation Inc. (NCF) is a partner in the event, alongside the National Commission for Culture.
Meanwhile, NCF President Lyn Gamboa called it a “milestone” and “reason to celebrate and carry out exciting and meaningful programs throughout the year all over the country.”
The performance is divided into six parts comprised of “Valse Fantasy,” a presentation by Nonoy Froilan and music from Mikhail Glinka; “Nocturne,” which is choreographed by Carlos Pacis with music from Felix Mendelssohn; “Vision of Fire,” which is choreographed by Edna Vida with music from Ruben Federizon; “Langit Lupa” by Erl Emmanuel Sorilla and music by Amon Tobin and Dublex Inc.; “Nutcracker Grand Pas De Deux,” which is choreographed after Petipa, staged by Adam Sage, with music by Pyotr Ilytch Tchaikovsky; and “Afterwhom” by Augusts Damian III with music by Jerrold Tarog.
In addition, Ballet Philippines will also host a lecture-demonstration for local artists.
Founded in 1969, Ballet Philippines was the first resident company for the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
The company also runs the Ballet Philippines Dance School, which currently enrolls over 200 dance scholars through the Noordin Jumalon Scholarship Program./WDJ
