The Department of Health-Region VI (DOH-6) will be concluding their ongoing program advocating organ donation tomorrow at the Punta Villa Resort in Iloilo City.
“For those who are willing to donate their organs, please come,” urged DOH-6 Senior Health Program Officer John Richard Lapascua. “Do not hesitate and don’t be afraid to donate your useful internal organs when your time comes.”
“This year, the celebration focuses on kidney donors, whether living or deceased, and their families,” he added. “We are conducting promotive and preventive activities against chronic and other diseases that can damage our kidneys.”
The department is placing an emphasis on kidney since June is National Kidney Month.
According to Presidential Proclamation No. 184, signed in 1993 by then-President Fidel V. Ramos, “It is necessary to instill consciousness and increase public awareness of the fatal consequences of renal diseases.”
“Take good care of our kidneys,” Lapascua affirmed. “The best way to prevent dialysis is to have a healthy lifestyle, enough food intake, quit smoking, don’t drink too much liquor, and, if you feel something unusual, do not hesitate to consult the nearest health center or facility.”
